The 11+ is the entrance exam taken by children in Year 6 (aged 10–11) for places at UK grammar schools and many independent schools. Different schools and regions use different formats — including CEM, GL Assessment, and bespoke school papers — but vocabulary depth is a common requirement across them all.
Verbal reasoning sections in particular rely heavily on a strong vocabulary. Children who recognise more words read passages faster, understand questions more accurately, and have more time to think.
